FIRST CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH (FCE)
The University of Cambridge provides worldwide known exams for learners of English language.
The British Council in Poland organizes these exams for learners in Poland.
FCE is an intermediate-level exam for learners representing Level B2 of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
This means that if you represent Level B2, you are able to:- talk on everyday life activities and events
- explain, give advice, evaluate, ask for information, express opinions
- participate in discussions on various subjects related to everyday activities, jobs, entertainment, social and political affairs and events, social issues, happenings, mass media reports, articles and interviews, literature, art and science
- make notes, reports, summaries, write basic business letters and essays
- perform routine office work

- The Writing Part (ca 1 hour, 20 min.)
- The Use of English Part (ca 45 min.)
- The Listening Part (ca 40 min.)
- The Speaking Part (14 min.)
It checks if you can understand details and main ideas of texts. Having read them, you need to answer single or multiple choice questions, fill in empty spaces or match answers to questions to the texts and choose right titles to parts of the texts.
The Writing PartIt checks your skill of writing e-mails, reports, messages or letters. Based on a presented note, you may be asked to write an article related to it.
The Use of English PartIt tests your grammatical knowledge and vocabulary based on exercises of multiple choice, missing gaps, changing given words so to correct the sentence, and also key word transformations.
The Listening PaperIts examines your understanding of meanings of texts, information they contain; also their details and main points. You have to answer multiple choice questions and complete sentences related to recorded texts. You will need to do a multiple matching of sentences to other recorded texts.
The Speaking PartThis part examines your ability to talk with the examiner about yourself or other topics, proving that you are able to describe, compare, express your opinions and undertake decisions.
